I connected my laser controller to my computer via USB but the port is not recognized.

Make sure the USB to microUSB cable has the signal lines connected - some cables only have the power lines connected for charging.

You may need to install the Virtual COM port driver: Install the FTDI Virtual COM port driver if the operating system does not create a serial port.
