Can I connect current-driver outputs in parallel to get more current?

Yes, some Koheron current-driver outputs can be connected in parallel to increase the maximum output current.

This is possible with our ground-referenced current drivers:

  • Cathode-grounded: DRV110, DRV300, DRV700 and DRV800
  • Anode-grounded: QCL100

The current supplied by the paralleled outputs adds together.

Floating-output drivers such as the DRV200 and DRV200S must not be connected in parallel.

When several independent channels are connected in parallel, their uncorrelated current-noise contributions add quadratically. For $N$ identical channels, the total current-noise density therefore increases by a factor of $\sqrt{N}$.

Only connect outputs in parallel when they have the same output configuration, and make sure that the total current remains within the safe operating range of the load.
